Millennials are going into dating debt, proving that even finding love costs more for this gen. Amid rising costs and their extended singledom, 22% of 26-41-year-olds report spending beyond their means on dates, according to a survey from LendingTree. Of course, Gen Z isn’t faring much better: 19% of 18-24-year-olds surveyed also agreed that their dates are landing them in debt. On average, Gen Z and Millennials report spending $91 per date, which adds up fast when taking into account the state of dating today: YPulse’s dating and relationships research found roughly half of 13-39-year-olds are single as they push off marriage and other major life milestones—all of which were further delayed by the pandemic. Now, the majority of single 13-39-year-olds say dating is more difficult now than it was in the past, while 59% say dating is more trouble than it’s worth—and when taking debt into account, it’s easy to understand why.
