Studio Ghibli fans can now bring their favorite animated meals to life. The Japanese animation studio is best known for their classic films Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and My Neighbor Totoro. Widely loved by Gen Z and Millennials, the animations provide a nostalgic comfort, especially in their portrayals of food. There’s an extremely soothing quality to the ASMR slurps and sizzles of Japanese cuisine that makes viewers want to eat their screens. Now, they’ll be able to recreate the iconic dishes with The Studio Ghibli Cookbook: Unofficial Recipes Inspired by Spirited Away, Ponyo, and More! The book will include recipes from productions well known and ones not so mainstream, like “seafood salad from the lesser-know[n] When Marnie Was Here (2014), nut cake from Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind and herring and pumpkin pie from Kiki’s Delivery Service.” Out later next month, the book aligns with young consumers’ growing interest in global content. YPulse’s Local / Global Citizenship report data shows that 80% of Gen Z and Millennials say they enjoy food from other countries and 71% are interested in entertainment that features other cultures / countries.
