Whole Foods customers will now be able to pay with their palms. This week, Amazon announced that they’ll be pushing Amazon One, the ecommerce giant’s palm-recognition payment method, across 65 Whole Foods locations in California. In order to register their palm print, customers will “need to provide a payment card and phone number, agree to Amazon’s terms of service, and share an image of [their] palms.” The technology is being framed as a convenient retail tool, but ever since it was announced back in 2020, consumers were quick to voice their privacy concerns. But Gen Z and Millennials are no stranger to Apple’s face recognition tech, which operates just the same. YPulse’s Data Privacy Issue trend report data shows 37% of Gen Z and Millennials use face scanning password tech while 47% use fingerprint password tech. (The Verge, Mashable)
