For those not traveling this summer, the FOMO is real. Gen Z and Millennials are seeing practically everyone on social media posting their gelatos in Venice or their sandy toes on Bahama beaches. Compared to the last two years, there’s a heavy increase in international travel this summer. According to U.S. International Air Travel Statistics, “the amount of outbound international U.S. flights increased about 97% year-over-year from April 2021 to April 2022.” Airbnb is also showing record bookings among U.S. travelers heading out of the country. Many young people are asking how others are affording this, but it can be attributed to those who were saving up during the pandemic and felt pent-up after putting their dream vacations on hold. Many are even exceeding their budgets since this is their first time away in a while, yet some say they have the convenience of staying with family/friends. YPulse’s Travel report data shows that 64% of Gen Z and Millennials agree: “travel is even more important to me now than it was before Coronavirus.” (Bloomberg)
