TikTok is rolling out new safety tools to help users personalize their FYPs even further. Gen Z and Millennials’ favorite app is cracking down on user control by launching three new features that let viewers customize the content they see. The first involves the ability to filter out specific words or hashtags individuals don’t care to see in their feeds. For example, it can be as simple as not wanting to see cooking videos that include meat. The second feature, called Content Levels, gives the ability to rank content on a scale of “thematic maturity” and will function to keep mature content hidden from younger viewers. The third continues to monitor content by attempting “to identify videos that are okay one at a time but problematic in bulk.” This involves flagging videos that may discuss toxic diet culture or mental illness. YPulse’s Social Media Monitor report shows TikTok use has steadily increased among Gen Z and social media’s negative impacts on the ways young women view themselves is alarming. (The Verge)
