Step aside NYC and LA, according to LinkedIn, the best place for Gen Z to kick-start their careers is now Austin, Texas. YPulse’s data on the top financial goals for 2022 when it comes to Gen Z includes increasing income and finding a job, and Austin is where many are going for new opportunities. Austin’s entry level position hiring rate has grown by 21% from 2020 to 2021 with big corps like Oracle, Green Dot, and Tesla setting up shop there since the pandemic, joining other large companies (namely Apple, Google, Amazon, and PayPal) who reside there in the “Silicon Hills.” An influx of Gen Z workers have flocked to the city for its charm and comfortability, and one 2020 graduate said of his move, “Austin felt like a really great way to have that California culture, California mentality but at a Texas price point.” However, this nation-wide gravitational move is causing the city’s rents to soar and has Millennial and Gen Z residents taking to TikTok to complain, fresh graduates are still eager to move there and start their careers.
