Millennial-loved Mattel toys, like Barbie and Hot Wheels, are entering Cryptoys’ NFT casual-gaming world.

Millennial-loved Mattel toys, like Barbie and Hot Wheels, are entering Cryptoys’ NFT casual-gaming world.YPulse predicted that the metaverse would be a major toy trend in 2022—and Mattel is diving in head-first. Characters from “the storied heroes of Hot Wheels, American Girl, Thomas the Tank Engine, Polly Pocket, Barbie, and Masters of the Universe” will be digitized as playable avatars to be sold as NFTs and appear in Cryptoys’ metaverse. Brought on by OnChain Studios, the “platform is built on the carbon-efficient Flow blockchain, which lets NFTs mobilize in an array of phone, tablet, or desktop mini-games” and the platform is described as the “Nintendo native of Web3—where the platform is the console and the avatars are the cartridges, each unlocking a unique set of character-specific games.” Each avatar has the potential to grow and learn new abilities, increasing its value as time goes on. YPulse’s Metaverse Trend Report data shows Gen Z (32%) is more likely than Millennials (27%) to purchase virtual / digital goods for their avatars, but Millennials (28%) are more likely than Gen Z (13%) to buy crypto currency / NFTs.
