Drew Afualo has over 7 million followers on TikTok for her takedowns of misogynistic content on the app. Afualo’s videos are typically a Stitch or Duet of a male TikToker sharing negative, most times grotesquely ignorant, things about women. She then takes down their outdated and tone-deaf comments through humor and a little bit of savagery. Although Afualo receives an influx of virtual attacks and threats, she is still determined to defend women and publically “humiliate” men in defense of many who look to her as a femenist vigilante of sorts. Young women on the app often tag her in potential content to respond to. YPulse found that gender equality and sexism is a top cause that young people care about, and creators like Afualo are pushing the conversation to positively challenge stereotypes and false-attributions.
