“Grandmaximalism” is the latest TikTok core aesthetic blending two Gen Z and Millennial favorites.Home decorators are merging “Grandmillennialism” with Maximalism to forge a style for those who constantly find themselves stuck between the two gens. For those who missed it, “Grandmillennialism” pulls inspiration from “vintage styles that lean heavily into floral-patterned furniture and wallpapers,” and Gen Z “maximalism” is all about showing off fun collections. Now, TikTokers are showing off a combination of these styles, with spaces that are both antique-y and comfortingly cluttered. Grandmaximalist looks can be anything from “light and airy” to “witchy,” but they’re decidedly departures from anything clean and minimalist. YPulse research shows that 51% of 13-39-year-olds plan to spend most of their time at home, even after the height of the pandemic, and niche styles continue to trend as they continue to put more effort into decorating.
