Netflix is helping Millennial parents out by launching a new feature that will help young kids discover fresh content. YPulse research found that Netflix is the top platform their kids are watching video content on, according to Millennial parents. To reach these young viewers, Netflix debuted a “Mystery Box” feature, which is similar to the “Shuffle” button but allows kids to watch a preview of new content when they hover the remote over a sparkly box. Think, unboxing, but for content! The streaming service is implementing the feature in hopes of introducing kids to a broader range of videos, because according to their data, kids often feel comfortable rewatching their favorites. (Millennial parents suffering through the 100th rewatch of CoComelon know this too well.) Netflix’s director of product innovation, kids, and family, took note of this issue, saying that “kids are drawn to what they love—their favorite toys, foods, songs—and it’s hard to get them to try something new.” Millennial parents have been craving more kids’ content for their little ones, and now their ears could finally be relieved of hearing the same shows on repeat.
