For the first time ever, video game music will be included as part of this year’s BBC Proms, one of the world’s most prominent classical music events. Held each summer in London’s Royal Albert Hall, the festival includes over 3,000 musicians and is better known for featuring compositions by the likes of Mozart and Handel. But this year, the event will include a night of music featuring “selections and adaptations from soundtracks spanning gaming history,” including pieces from The Legend of Zelda and Battlefield 2042. YPulse’s WE Gaming report found that nearly every young European plays video games in some capacity, and they spent even more time in their virtual worlds during the pandemic. Meanwhile, 70% say that brands should pay attention to gamer culture, a directive the Proms is taking seriously by “opening the doors to a new audience that maybe wouldn’t necessarily go to a classical concert.” (The Guardian)
