In honor of International Women’s Day, Bumble launched a campaign in Western Europe to end gender-based relationship expectations. A survey from Bumble and YouGov found that three-quarters of young people believe that men and women are expected to behave in different ways in romantic relationships, with 52% saying men are expected to take the lead and 32% of women saying they are afraid of coming off clingy or desperate while dating. To “close the romance gap,” as Bumble puts it, the popular dating app released an ad that showcases women from around the world sounding off about romantic inequalities, ending with the tagline, “Let’s drop the script and just be one thing—ourselves.” YPulse’s recent WE dating and relationships behavioral research shows just how much Gen Z and Millennials have changed dating culture, from bringing casual dating into the mainstream and pushing thoughts of marriage to the side. But as unconventional as they may be romantically, many gender norms still exist—and Bumble’s #MakeRomanceEqual campaign may appeal to the young Europeans looking to shatter them. (The Drum)
