Tech companies are experimenting with metaverse-like platforms to bring an exciting new layer to virtual school. With hybrid and online-only school environments becoming the new normal in the last year and a half, tech platforms are starting to think about how they can infuse gaming (and the metaverse) with traditional education. Launch House, a California-based community and residency program for startup founders and engineers, is working on creating a virtual space on browser-based metaverse platform Gather that is modeled after real-life universities. The space would go beyond a virtual rendition of the classroom by featuring numerous campus spaces where students can learn together. Currently, Gather is operating as a virtual co-working space, which is home to over 10,000 virtual offices at the moment. Launch House’s co-founder notes how metaverse-like education environments could inspire students’ online learning by collaborating inside an immersive virtual platform as opposed to listening to a lecture through Zoom.
