Netflix and TikTok launched programs to support young Indigenous producers and creators. We’ve been telling you about all the programs being launched to support BIPOC talent, and Netflix recently teamed up with Illuminative, a woman-led nonprofit organization, for the IllumiNative Producers Program, a year-long training program for Indigenous producers beginning next spring that will support seven early and mid-career producers. The selected fellows will receive a $25,000 stipend to support their work, attend monthly workshops, and receive creative feedback and mentorship as they develop their projects. Meanwhile, TikTok partnered with the National Screen Institute (NSI) earlier this year to launch an accelerator program for Indigenous creators based in Canada to help grow their brands and elevate their content. The program is led by comedian and influencer Sherry McKay, who has 480K followers on TikTok, and film producer Justina Neepin, who will be working closely with Sarah Simpson-Yellowquill and Cheyenne Bruneau from NSI.
