Sesame Street is keeping up with kids’ and parents’ real world concerns. YPulse’s Representation in Action research shows that 53% of Millennial parents have had their child watch a TV show / movie because it featured a diverse cast. Sesame Street has continued to keep up with their desire for inclusive shows, introducing two new Muppets (Wes and Elijah) this year “to help teach racial literacy.” A recent study by Sesame found that 86% of kids six-11-years-old “believe that people of different races are not treated fairly in this country,” and almost half have personally felt discriminated against. The show is also including some pandemic-related storylines and campaigns, including a partnership with DoorDash promoting ordering from local businesses. This month, the platform will deliver Sesame Street-themed items, like shirts and facemasks from a virtual Hooper’s Store. (AdAge)
