HBO Max is now available in several Western European countries, giving Netflix a run for its money. HBO Max officially launched in Spain, Andora, and the Nordics last week with an offer designed to undercut Netflix and Disney Plus for new subscribers: those who sign up before November 30 will get a lifetime subscription at half the price. In Spain and Finland, for example, the usual monthly fee of €8.99 ($10.40) will be just €4.49 ($5.20), and will remain at that price as long as the subscription remains active. YPulse’s recent media consumption research found that the majority of young Europeans subscribe to Netflix, far outpacing every other streaming service in the region. HBO plans to launch in 21 European countries in 2022 in an effort to get a piece of Netflix’s viewership. (Variety)
