Gaming While Black is an entertainment platform that wants to give Black and diverse gamers more opportunities, including pay equity. According to research from Quartz, 57% of American video gamers between the ages of 6-29-years-old will be people of color in less than 10 years. Meanwhile, people of color spend more time per day gaming, but Black Americans (13%) are more likely than White Americans (7%) to say that video games portray minorities poorly. YPulse’s Gaming report found that 66% of 13-39-year-old Black consumers consider themselves a gamer. To reach that demographic, new entertainment platform and studio Gaming While Black, which was conceived by 3BLACKDOT, is a larger effort to help more Black gamers access opportunities including pay equity. According to Founder and CEO Regi Cash, he was inspired to start the initiative after last year’s Black Lives Matter protests: “We know the perspective of this community is often overlooked within entertainment and gaming. By highlighting a shared cultural perspective, we affirm the audience’s existence and hopefully give them the confidence and assurance in the value and merit of their perspective, not just in gaming, but in whichever field they choose to endeavor.” (Muse by Clio)
