Many Millennial women say that remote work is a priority as the future of the workplace continues to adapt.

Aug 25 2021

Many Millennial women say that remote work is a priority as the future of the workplace continues to adapt. In a survey of more than 1,600 women ages 25-40-years-old conducted by theSkimm, two-thirds say they view remote work as a priority, 43% say remote work is important/extremely important moving forward, and 22% say they would no longer consider working for an employer if WFH wasn’t an option in the future. With many Millennial women serving as a primary caregiver for their household (three in five caregivers in the U.S. are women), remote work is an important benefit as it helps them remain flexible on top of balancing their work schedules and family needs. Access to remote work can help promote equitable workplaces as well, and according to data from Catalyst, women with child-care needs are 32% less likely to leave their job if they can work from home, compared with women with child-care responsibilities who don’t have access to remote work. Still, theSkimm survey notes that two-thirds of Millennial women believe they will miss career opportunities by not being in the office, while 40% say they feel more pressure to go back in the office if they know their male colleagues are. Co-CEO of theSkimm Carly Zakin notes, “Companies should get a sense of where their team is to get an idea of what their teams are asking for and where there are opportunities to support them.” YPulse found that more than half of employed Millennials who are working remotely plan to WFH post-COVID, and it’s becoming a vital workplace benefit as it can support employees’ well-being.
