Millennial parents whose kids are hooked on Disney can relax—it turns out “princess culture isn’t toxic.” The generation was raised watching Ariel and Belle only to be told later that the movies probably gave them terrible ideas about gender roles and women—oh, and body image too. But it turns out that’s not necessarily the case. A new study says that kids who watch even classic Disney fairytale films “develop healthier views about gender roles.” Children, both girls and boys, who were really into princesses at age five were more likely years later to have progressive ideas about gender roles and reject the concept that boys shouldn’t be emotional. Though the results are of course being debated, Millennial parents might be able to feel a little better about turning on Elsa again. (And again, and again…) (WSJ)
