Toy retailer Camp is introducing an ecommerce platform to build kids’ autonomy with online shopping. YPulse’s Playtime trend research found that more than half of Millennial parents say their kids have a say in what toys they play with—and now they might have a chance to shop online for them solo. New York-based toy retailer Camp—which opened its first store in 2018—is starting the next generation of digital shoppers young, and building an ecommerce platform that will help kids learn how to budget and purchase products online with minimal parent oversight. The Present Shop lets parents set a budget and pre-fill their shipping and payment information, and from there the site sends a one-time code and link for their child to access and shop for their friends, family, and themselves. An animated bear guides kids through the shopping process, asking them a series of questions to curate items based on their, and the toy recipient’s, preferences. Camp’s executives say they want to help kids develop the habits and patterns of the online (shopping) world. (WSJ)
