COVID has made employee burnout even worse. According to an Unmind survey, 90% of employers said they were worried about employee burnout, while only 24% regularly review employee workloads and just 15% have increased paid time off. A breakdown in communication between bosses and workers is making the situation worse, with one in three employees report having fewer conversations with their managers about their mental health before the pandemic. Now, some companies are introducing a range of services to employees including “mental health days,” 24/7 support lines, a platform that requires workers to check-in and send updates about their well-being, and “safe spaces” that allow them to openly discuss the things impacting them. YPulse’s State of Mind trend report found that 47% of 13-39-year-olds think employers should be giving mental health days in addition to “sick” days, while 44% think they should be giving time off for self-care services as a way to combat burnout.
