“DermTok” is taking over TikTok.

Mar 05 2021

“DermTok” is taking over TikTok. We told you about the various professions taking over the app as well as the rise of skinfluencers, and now actual dermatologists are joining TikTok themselves. When in-person business slowed during lockdowns, some dermatologists found other ways to get people’s attention: Dr. Muneed Shah launched his @dermdoctor account last summer to provide basic education videos, and since then has earned 4.5 million followers and 66.7 million total video likes. He was also worried about the skincare misinformation that was being spread on the platform, and has been using the popular duet feature as a way to “stop the spread.” “DermTok” was born as more dermatologists went viral with their “bite-sized skincare advice” like teaching users about rosacea or explaining sclerotherapy. The hashtag #dermtok has 9.9 million views so far. (Glossy)
