Music labels are using TikTok to make the next hit Christmas song. For years, tunes from the ‘50s and ‘60s and of course, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” have been part of the “Christmas canon,” but this year, some brands want to use TikTok to inspire a new “holiday smash.” In October, digital marketing company Songfluencer reached out to music labels to get a head start on their holiday campaigns and they’ve been paying influencers to promote new holiday tracks on the app—like Shaggy’s “Holiday in Jamaica,” which was released this year. The company has also been working on a campaign mashup that includes Carey’s single, Andy Williams’ “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” and Bing Crosby’s “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.” (Rolling Stone)
