Daytime TV viewership is soaring as employees and students continue to work and learn from home. According to Nielsen, TV usage is up “considerably” between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. as routines and viewing patterns have shifted thanks to the pandemic. Between those hours, office professionals and managers increased their total TV time (which includes live and “time-shifted viewing” through internet-connected devices and gaming consoles) by 21%. Kids who are remote learning are “unsurprisingly” spending more time on internet-connected devices and gaming consoles than a year ago. Kids aged 2-5-years-old spend an average of 50 minutes more per week on TV during typical school hours compared to last year, while 6-11-year-olds spent a “whopping” three hours and 25 minutes more per week. Overall, usage for kids 12-17-year-olds increased two hours per week. (Adweek)
