The pandemic has forced millions of Gen Z and Millennial adults to move back home. YPulse’s recent survey found that 20% of 19-37-year-olds have had to move in with family to save money because of COVID, and according to an analysis from the University of Maryland, the number of young adults under the age of 30-years-old living with their parents in the U.S. is nearly 3 million higher today than it would have been without the pandemic. The data shows that approximately 24.8 million adults are living at home—an increase of 2.9 million. The biggest increases were among 21-year-old men and 20-year-old women with a “marked increase” for Black young adults. Nearly 60% of young Black men reported living with parents or grandparents—the highest of any race and gender group. (NYMag, Bloomberg)
