Instagram is teaming up with ChowNow to make food “shoppable” during the pandemic. The app is partnering with the Los Angeles-based restaurant ordering platform to add “Order Now” buttons and stickers on local restaurants’ photos and stories of their cuisine on Instagram to allow users to buy the food. As restaurants were forced to close their dine-in options to patrons, most have stayed open for takeout and delivery service, and the new button would ramp up their marketing and business. Prior to the pandemic, Instagram was already a popular destination for young consumers to shop—and with food being the top thing they can’t live without during this time, the feature is likely to be a hit with hungry, cooped up foodies.
