YouTubers and social media are influencing young children to want high-end wireless earphones, resulting in the popularity of “hearables.” While some parents give into their kids’ wants, there are plenty of concerns over Bluetooth transmissions, effects on hearing, and having (or losing) such expensive tech. Experts are worried kids will have a harder time coping with real world problems if they’re “constantly shifting their environment into alternate spaces they can control,” and some schools have even banned them as distractions and tools to cheat on tests.
