Recipe videos are gaining popularity on TikTok, but they’re nothing like the ones you’ve seen on other platforms. Short and ridiculous, the most popular are less about serious cooking than entertaining users. For instance, a clip about “how to make a glass of water” has over 89,000 likes. In another video, a user actually makes an omelet but that’s not why people have liked it over 3.3 million times; instead, it’s because all the cook’s salt shaking, whisking, and chopping is layered to create a song.
