Fake meat could upend the food world. Sales of plant-based meat are outpacing the original, growing 23% in the twelve months leading up to September 2018 compared to traditional meat’s 2%, a pattern similar to the rise of alternative dairy. And as more big brands (like Burger King) make plant-based burgers, “vegan” has become a more common term, with menu penetration rising 490% since 2008. Three in ten U.S. consumers say they’re eating less meat, and vegan food is a top trend among young consumers. (Fast Company)
