Therapy is losing its stigma as more young people add sessions to their self-care regiments. A Penn State University study of 147 schools found that the rate at which students sought out help with their mental health from 2011 to 2016 was five times greater than the rate of new student enrollment. Many of those new to therapy are seeing the practice as another form of self-care, like yoga and skincare—but that’s not necessarily a positive thing. Their “multidimensional perfectionism” means some are bringing an unhealthy expectation to “fix” themselves to sessions. (WSJ)
