Broad City’s season five premiere was shot entirely on iPhones to look like a social media story. The Comedy Central hit show filmed their two leads walking the length of Manhattan using six iPhone Xs; then, they layered on emojis and captions to give the footage the real feel of watching a friend’s Instagram Story. However, unlike social media shows that are told through the characters’ accounts in real time, the narrative is available on Hulu as one horizontally-formatted, 22-minute episode.
