As more teens vape, traditional cigarette smoking has risen in turn—after two decades of declining. Vaping has introduced more teens to tobacco in the past few years, with an anonymous source from the CDC reporting a 77% surge in e-cigarette use among high schoolers over the past year. So, while e-cigarette companies like Juul position their devices as a method to help heavy users quit, the reverse could be happening. The uptick in traditional cigarette use was slight, rising to 8.1% this year from 7.6% in 2016, but reverses a year-over-year decline that started in 1997. (CNBC)
