Instagram poets are reaching a new generation and Yrsa Daley-Ward thinks they’re “doing the poetry world a service.” The poet thinks social media is pushing poetry past the literary elite and “into the hands of people of different identities.” She’s also proving that Instagram poets can receive critical acclaim, something that contemporaries like Rupi Kaur and Cleo Wade haven’t been able to do. A librarian at the National Poetry Library adds that young people’s interest in Instagram poets “shows that a whole generation are interested in politics and in trying to change the world through art.” (NYTimes)
