Girls can be boyish, but society is not ready for boys to be more feminine. One reason is that “almost all the social demand” to make toys less gendered “has been on the girls' side,” according to Global Toy Experts’ CEO. And it’s not just the toy industry: While girls have Mulan, Moana, and other strong female protagonists, male characters “continue to alternate between brute and naïf.” But as more of the Diversity Tipping Point generation become industry leaders, we should see fewer male stereotypes in the toy aisle and across media.
