Adult dorms are gaining traction in San Francisco, where residents seek refuge from sky high rents. Starcity offers single bedrooms with shared bathrooms and common areas, a far cry from the typical co-living startups’ micro-apartment offering. The SF startup has filled three properties and has nine more on the way with a waitlist of over 9,000 people. Residents range in age from about 20 to 50, moving in to save money and staying for the perks: add-on services like laundry service and doggy day care, community events like wine nights, and more.
