Toys ‘R’ Us is planning to close about 20% of its stores. Underwhelming holiday seasonal sales turned out to be the last straw for the recently-bankrupt retailer, so they’re shuttering 180 locations from February to April. Toys ‘R’ Us has struggled to lure time-strapped young parents away from one-stop shops like Target and to bring their online experience up to speed to compete with the likes of Amazon. However, while Toys ‘R’ Us is closing many locations, they’re also betting on high-tech experiential new retail stores to bring back their iconic brand. (WSJ, MediaPost)
