Young people today are more hesitant to spend than they were nine years ago, according to an analysis by Gallup. They report that self-reported daily spending among 18-29-year-olds dropped from $93 in 2008 to $74 in 2016, based on a survey asking U.S. adults how much they spent “yesterday.” While spending for other age groups has mostly rebounded to pre-Recession levels, among young adults it has “not recovered”—likely because they are still feeling the impacts of the economic slump, and the debt they accrued during that time.
