This year’s holiday shopping season may see a slow-down from 2016. Last year, holiday retail sales grew by 4.8%, and eMarketer is estimating that this year that growth will be down to 2.0%. One area where the firm predicts growth will be e-commerce: in 2016, ecommerce accounted for 10.6% of total retail, and will most likely reach 12.0% this year. However, analysts warn that retail is hard to predict this year: “tax cuts could boost spending…but a border tax could raise prices on retail goods and political instability in general could spook consumers.” (eMarketer)
