Young people are in support of freedom until it offends others. A new global poll by research firm Populus found the majority of 18-21-year-olds are in support of equality between the sexes and rights for transgender people—in the U.S. specifically, three-quarters are in support of transgender rights. However, when it comes to freedom of non-violent speech that may offend minorities, less than half of respondents were in support. In our PC Police trend, we learned that 13-33-year-olds feel it’s their responsibility to take a stand against behavior and speech they find to be hurtful. (The Economist)
