Wearables are not living up to expectations. Originally, usage of wearables was forecasted to grow more than 60% among U.S. adults this year, but eMarketer recently had to revise their estimate significantly, to only 24.7%. The research firm blames high price points and lack of clear use for smartwatches for the disappointing results. Younger consumers are more likely to use wearables, mainly fitness trackers, with roughly 30% of 18-34-year-olds predicted to be users next year, compared to 17.6% overall. (MediaPost)
