Mainstream media should be wary of Periscope. The Twitter-acquired startup was one of the first on the live-streaming scene, and as of March 2016 has generated over 200 million broadcasts. With an aim to give everyone “a bigger view of the world and tell their story from a real, human, and unfiltered point of view,” the platform has been utilized to cover a range of high-profile news stories like Hurricane Matthew, the Democratic sit in on gun control, and the Turkish Parliament bombing.
