Young consumers are not flocking to see the orchestra—according to a study in France, the average age of an audience member went from 36-years-old in 1981 to 61-years-old in 2014. In an effort to stay relevant over the coming years, institutions are turning to untraditional methods. The historic Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles recently hosted Sleepless: The Music Center After Hours—a night with music performances by Kroma Quartet along with sets by DJs Frosty and Joey Altruda, an ‘80s arcade, art installations, and dancing. The event sold out hours before it started and 70% of attendees were first time visitors. (Forbes)
