Teens are going back to summer jobs. Earlier this year, we reported that the number of 16-19-year-olds getting summer jobs in May has been on the decline since the ‘70s and dropped 15% from 2015 to 2016—but since then there’s been a major rebound. One firm’s data indicates that “With strong hiring in June and July, the number of teenagers finding summer employment in 2016 increased by more than 15 percent to its highest level since 2013.” The sudden change is likely due in part to the fact that more adults are getting better opportunities—freeing up lower-level positions for teens once more.
