Pokémon’s new app is taking over. This week, the 20-year-old Pokémon franchise released Pokémon Go, an augmented reality app that shows Pokémon characters integrated into the “real world” for players to find, catch, and train. Users can see Pokémon on their phone screens, and don’t even have to be paying attention to play: “Wander anywhere outside, and the app will alert you when you come near a Pokémon.” Fans report that the app is “controlling their lives,” and so far the app has generated more revenue and downloads than any other iPhone app in the U.S. (VentureBeat, BuzzFeed)
