“Grocerants,” grocery stores that offer “fresh, restaurant-quality prepared foods,” are drawing in the Millennial crowd.

“Grocerants,” grocery stores that offer “fresh, restaurant-quality prepared foods,” are drawing in the Millennial crowd. In 2015, in-store dining and take-out prepared foods accounted for $10 billion of consumer spending, and since 2008 has grown by almost 30%. Whole Foods’ Millennial-focused chain, 365, is the latest brand to run with the trend, offering “fresh food buffets and a variety of in-store restaurants.” In comparison to fast food restaurants, the NPD Group reports that grocery stores’ prepared foods rate higher in variety, freshness, quality, and healthy options.
