Schools, churches, and clubs are issuing a challenge to teens: unplug for 24-hours. “Digital cleanse” days ask teenagers, who feel almost powerless to their addiction to their devices, to turn over their phones for a full day. In one participating high school class, some students kissed their phones goodbye when handing them over, then compared notes on the extra sleep and time outside they got while device-free…all before grabbing their phones to count up the number of missed texts and alerts they received.
