There’s a new kind of scout troop for kids who would rather learn how to code than how to build a fire. The Boy Scouts of America have introduced the STEM Scouts, a co-ed program to encourage kids to have fun learning science, technology, engineering, and math. Scouts focus on various themes during the program, from stream ecology to the physics of developing a life-sized Angry Birds game. Currently a pilot initiative, STEM Scouts was created in reaction to “a critical shortage of qualified STEM professionals” and after research found the concept would appeal to parents. It will be expanding to 12 new cities this fall. (Fast Company)
