Streaming and online video competition is continuing to heat up, and now Verizon is going after teens by launching their own online video service, which will provide more than 200 hours of original content a year. The company will be releasing two mobile channels as a part of the service: AwesomenessTV, aimed at teens and Millennials, and DreamWorksTV, which will feature more family-friendly entertainment. Content will be produced by AwesomenessTV, which has more than 112 million subscribers to its YouTube network, has been a successful launching pad for YouTubers, and already has content on Nickelodeon and Netflix. Videos will have varying lengths and the service will be “mobile first,” to align with young consumers’ mindsets. (The Verge, Los Angeles Times)
