A “Selma for Students” campaign to make tickets to the Martin Luther King, Jr.

Jan 20 2015

A “Selma for Students” campaign to make tickets to the Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic free for high schoolers has spread to roughly two dozen cities. The effort was initiated by African-American business leaders in New York, and the quick and impressive demand soon expanded the ticket pool to an estimated 275,000 tickets available nationwide. “Selma For Students” aims to expose teens to the impact and significance of the civil rights movement, and “nurture civic engagement among young people.” A website has been set up to help organize the efforts, and viewers are being encouraged to use the tag #SelmaForStudents to continue the conversation.
