Laundry detergent pods that have become popular in recent years because they’re easy to use, but unfortunately they’re also a health risk. Between 2012 to 2013, over 17,000 children were “exposed” to pods by swallowing them or popping them open—and 4.4% of those had to go to the hospital. Despite efforts to label them and help guide parents and guardians in keeping them safe, kids keep eating them, and a study in the journal Pediatrics suggests they be reformulated to be less dangerous.
